About theamp.net

Andrea Music Portal (A.M.P.) is a division of Andrea Electronics Corporation. A.M.P. draws upon the rich audio history of Andrea Electronics Corporation, while enhancing and diversifying the Company's market reach. Andrea Electronics Corporation designs and manufactures a product line of noise canceling communications equipment and audio input software for the PC industry.

A.M.P. springs from the history of Andrea Electronics Corporation, which dates back over eighty years. Beginning in the 1920s, Frank A.D. Andrea Sr. founded F.A.D.A. Radio, which designed and manufactured some of the first commercially available radios, becoming one of the top five radio manufacturers in America. In 1934, Frank A.D. Andrea Sr. then founded Andrea Radio Corporation, and in conjunction with radio production, his focus began to include the emerging market of television. As an early pioneer in manufacturing high quality television sets, the 1939 New York World's Fair displayed a television set made by Andrea Radio Corporation. The Company went on to develop a reputation as the "Cadillac" of televisions in the 1950s. Andrea produced the guidance system for the United States' first successful missile launch, and in the early 1960s, Andrea products flew into space as the astronaut audio system for the NASA Mercury Spacecraft, the United States' first manned space flight. Andrea Radio Corporation became a public company in 1961, and currently trades by the symbol ANDR.OB. In the 1970s and 1980s, Andrea became a premier supplier of high performance avionic audio intercom equipment for defense industry manufacturers such as Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Sikorsky Helicopter, and Lockheed.

Utilizing its experience in developing high performance audio intercom systems for extreme noise aircraft environments, the Company formed an active noise cancellation division in 1990, and changed its name to Andrea Electronics Corporation to reflect its new strategic direction. The Company has successfully transformed itself from a manufacturer of industrial and military intercommunication systems, to become a creator of innovative audio technologies, incorporating the company's patented audio input knowledge to enable natural language interfaces and enhance the performance of voice activated PC applications. Since its inception, the Company has gone through an evolution as an audio technology leader, meeting the ever-changing needs of a demanding audio communications marketplace.

Launched in 2007, Andrea Music Portal is the latest development in the audio history of Andrea Electronics Corporation. Offering state-of-the-art features in music distribution, e-commerce and social networking on the Web, Andrea Music Portal is a global, user-generated content, virtual marketplace. Music artists can upload original music compositions and accompanying album art to the Site, as well as relevant band information such as concert dates and locations. This material is then available for instantaneous, worldwide distribution on the Web. The consumer can obtain the content through highly secure SSL encrypted credit card purchase, and download direct to computer or portable media player.

The established reputation and Web presence of Andrea Electronics Corporation offers A.M.P. members exponential exposure, as well as a cost effective, ready built space, to distribute and sell original music compositions through the world market place of the Web. The A.M.P. member can reach interested listeners in a shorter time frame than otherwise would be possible through an unknown, personal, and costly website. Cultivating strategic partnerships and Web links with record labels and radio stations, A.M.P. provides built-in exposure to the recording industry and the airwaves. These partnerships will constantly expand to broaden the reach of A.M.P. on the Web, benefiting the A.M.P. member base.

Unlike other spaces on the Internet, A.M.P. artists earn money every time one of their tracks is downloaded. Any artist can join the A.M.P. fee free, and distribute and sell their original music, simply by registering. Some areas of the Site may only be available by monthly or yearly subscription purchase. With features such as a front page, real time, top downloads list, A.M.P. artists that achieve inclusion in the list gain recognition. This recognition will build upon itself, as the top downloads tend to receive greater interest and play time. The top downloads list will present an asset to the record labels and radio stations, in the form of a constantly updated list of successful, consumer proven artists. A forum will provide an avenue for member communication, and theamp.net will pick interesting artists to be showcased on "Center Stage".
